Every credit union has an origin story, but Securityplus's says a lot about who they still are today. They opened their doors in 1938, in the depths of the Great Depression, when a small group of federal workers and Baltimore neighbors decided that if affordable credit wasn't available to them anywhere else, they would build it themselves. Nearly 90 years later, that same not-for-profit, member-owned model is still how Securityplus operates, and it's what led them to Eko for their newest offering: Securityplus Investments, Securityplus's new digital investing experience, powered by Eko.
Starting now, digital investing is available to Securityplus members, from the federal employees and Baltimore neighbors who have banked with them for generations to the newest members just getting started, making it easier than ever to invest, build wealth, and take meaningful steps toward long-term financial security, right from the convenience of their existing digital banking experience. Members don't have to go it alone, either: Securityplus Investments gives members the choice of managing their own portfolio hands-on, or letting Eko do the work for them through hybrid or pre-built, professionally managed options.
Investments is Securityplus FCU's digital investing experience, built on Eko's technology and designed to make investing accessible, approachable, and aligned with the same not-for-profit, people-first values Securityplus members already trust.
Securityplus Investments offers three ways to invest, all in one place.
For members who would rather have a diversified portfolio built for them, or who want a professionally managed starting point they can still adjust, pre-built and hybrid options are available right alongside the fully self-directed path.
Whether a member is a first-time investor who wants Eko to build a diversified portfolio for them, a federal employee planning for retirement who wants some say without managing every detail, or someone who wants full control to build their own portfolio, Securityplus Investments was built with all of them in mind.
To celebrate the launch, Securityplus is also running a limited-time offer: the first 100 members to open and fund a Securityplus Investments account will receive a $10 credit in their Investments account.
Getting members funded quickly was one of Securityplus's requirements for this launch, so Eko built Instant ACH, a significantly faster way to fund a Securityplus Investments account than a standard bank transfer, so members can get invested in a fraction of the usual time.
It's a good example of how this partnership works: Securityplus knows what members need, and Eko works to align the product vision with that mission. We're proud to build alongside financial institutions that put their members first.
Eko exists because we believe access to quality investing shouldn't depend on wealth or financial expertise. Not-for-profit, member-owned credit unions like Securityplus have operated on a version of that same belief since the day they were founded, putting members ahead of profit and treating banking as something built with a community, not sold to one.
That shared outlook is what makes Eko and Securityplus a natural fit. Securityplus's team describes their own approach through five values they call CARES: Collaboration, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit. Securityplus Investments was built with those same instincts in mind, customized alongside Securityplus rather than copied from a template, flexible enough to fit members at any stage of investing, and transparent about expectations and process.
It also reflects what Securityplus says its own mission is: “We empower people with financial security.” (More about Securityplus here). Investing is one more concrete way to do that, and it's why Eko is honored to be the platform behind it.
Eko provides the technology, compliance infrastructure, and ongoing support that lets a credit union like Securityplus offer a modern investing experience without the complexity of building it from scratch, and where a launch calls for something new, like Instant ACH, Eko builds it. From onboarding and member education resources to regulatory support built with privacy, security, and compliance at the forefront, Eko is with Securityplus every step of the way, so Securityplus can focus on what they do best: serving their members and the community.
For a credit union whose vision is “to be our members' first choice,” [1] Securityplus Investments is a natural extension of that promise. Now, the same institution that has helped Baltimore families and federal employees buy homes, save for emergencies, and plan for the future can also help them invest in it.
We couldn't be more proud to support Securityplus FCU on this journey, and we can't wait to see what their members accomplish. Learn more here.
